What is ZUGFeRD / Factur-X?
ZUGFeRD (Germany) and Factur-X (France/EU) are the same hybrid e-invoice format — a human-readable PDF with a machine-readable CII XML file embedded inside, following the EN 16931 European e-invoicing standard. They are technically identical.
Is my invoice data stored or shared?
No. All processing happens in server memory only. Your file is never written to disk, stored in a database, or logged. It is discarded immediately after validation. Fully GDPR compliant.
What formats are supported?
ZUGFeRD 2.x and Factur-X 1.x at all profiles (Minimum, Basic WL, Basic, EN 16931 / Comfort, Extended). Raw CII XML is also accepted. XRechnung UBL is not supported at this time.
What does "Required" mean?
A mandatory Business Term must be present for the invoice to pass EN 16931 compliance. Optional terms improve machine-readability and interoperability with accounting systems but are not required by the standard.
Why validate before sending?
Your client's accounting system may reject invoices with missing mandatory XML fields. Missing VAT category codes (BT-118, BT-151) can cause your client to lose their VAT deduction. Validating before sending catches issues before they cause problems.
Does the standard change often?
No. EN 16931 is a ratified European Norm (CEN) — major profile changes happen every few years at most. The EN 16931 (Comfort) profile your invoice uses today will remain valid and accepted for the foreseeable future.
